The City of Courtenay has been awarded $20,000 from ICIS’ Civic Spatial Grant Program towards their accuracy project that will establish a GPS base station and establish control to enhance their cadastral fabric as they begin building a GIS.

In 2007 Courtenay conducted a pilot project to increase the accuracy of their cadastral fabric and found some parcels represented incorrectly and areas on the cadastral base map that were as much as 7.8 meters out of alignment, while other areas were known to be out of alignment by as much as 30 metres.  To improve these areas and increase the accuracy of their cadastre the City of Courtenay have dedicated $30,000 per year over the next 3 years to have the entire cadastral fabric accurate to within 0.3 metres.  These changes will provide the improved fabric and control points to ICIS for the benefit of all ICIS members.
