ICIS is helping to support the District of Sechelt's project to install permanent survey control that meets a higher level of accuracy and formalizes the District of Sechelt’s survey control network.
With the extensive developments underway and planned for Sechelt establishing a survey control framework will ensure that these projects start out with good georeferencing. Old projects will also then be corrected in areas that are adjacent to the new projects, and over time the entire GIS accuracy will be upgraded and lead to better mapping, higher confidence, and better decisions.
CivicSpatial funding will help the District of Sechelt establish this framework with a GPS survey control network with permanent monuments. The baseline network will include ties to external high-accuracy control such as the permanent GPS trackers in Nanoose, Whistler, and Metro Vancouver, as well as to the nearest high-accuracy physical stations. This will create a very strong connection to the formal coordinate system in BC and will ensure consistency and ease of GIS integration.
All local governments who are members of ICIS are eligible to apply for CivicSpatial funding to assist with improving their spatial data to support the ICIS vision of collaborative sharing and integration of spatial data.
