The Powell River Regional District has received $10,000 through the CivicSpatial Grant program to improve the spatial accuracy of their parcel fabric.

With ICIS’ support, this project proposes to establish a network of control points that will be used to geo-reference approximately 5500 parcels within the populated regions of Powell River RD.   At present the Regional District’s cadastral base is assumed to have an accuracy of 6-10 meters based on its alignment with the Digital Road Atlas Centerline network.  This project will help to define the accuracy of the current data and improve its accuracy to an overall cadastral layer accuracy of +/- 5 metres, tied to known survey control points.

By improving the positional accuracy of the fabric, Powell River RD will increase their ability to undertake more detailed local government planning and provide greater value to District residents. Fellow ICIS members will also benefit from Powell River RD's commitment to regularly submit this improved spatial data to ICIS.

The ICIS Civic Spatial grant program supports the ICIS vision for collaborative sharing and integration of spatial data for the economic and social benefit of British Columbia.  For further information on ICIS and the ICIS CivicSpatial Grant Program, please contact Ann Archibald, ICIS Administration Coordinator (aarchibald@icisociety.ca).
