BC Spatial

What

BC Spatial is ICIS’ initiative to establish integration services for and one-stop access to the best available cadastral data for the province.

Why

Land parcels widely serve as foundational spatial data for ICIS members, and are often a key building block for the construction and maintenance of other business information.  At present, there does not exist a single consistent and comprehensive source of up-to-date parcel information throughout the province, although there are many parcel data sources with varying structure, content and format specifications.  Land parcels are provided to ICIS by many local government members and by the Province of BC.

The Value

BC Spatial will provide a data management framework that provides the best available parcel data to ICIS members.  In areas where there is a single source of parcel information, this means serving the most current version available, integrated with neighboring sources and supported by consistent reporting about its currency and integrity.  In areas where there are multiple sources of parcel data, it means providing the user with a means of selecting an appropriate source based on standardized currency and integrity reporting.

How

Phase 1 of BC Spatial will involve a comprehensive parcel data assessment to identify and quantify the state of parcel data in BC, and then a pilot program to automate the data delivery, integration, distribution and reporting processes.  The results of the pilot program will be used to determine future phases of the project.  For further information, check out the Project Charter, and follow activities and discussion on the project blog.
